All ale has broken loose in Greenwood. Oaken Barrel Brewing Company, the southside's
first brew pub, rolled out four new beer flavors this winter. Holiday beers included a
nutmeg spiced ale, a cherry ale, a plum stout and a New Year's Eve sparkling ale. These
treats added to Oaken Barrel's impressive house beer list which includes a blonde ale,
amber ale, honey brown ale, and a porter.
The Oaken Barrel Restaurant and Brewery is a full-service restaurant with both a family dining and a lounge area. It is located by One Liners Comedy Club in the Vista Village complex just off of Main Street in Greenwood (Exit 99 off I-65).
All of Oaken Barrel's draft beers are brewed in the seven-barrel brewery system located on site This gives the brew pub the ability to serve beers that are fresher and more flavorful than anything produced by the larger breweries. "The big breweries can't compete with us on flavor or variety," said Brook Belli, Oaken Barrel's brewmaster. "We don't have to cut corners on ingredients, and we can brew just about any flavor or style we want." So far they have. Open for only five months, the brew pub has already produced twelve different flavors of beer.
