LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

David's grandparents shared this letter with us--we thought you might enjoy reading about a brewery tour from a 10 year old's perspective:

Dear Grandma and Grandpa,

My mom, my brother, and I had a tour of the Leavenworth Brewery on 636 Front Street, and we went there on Nov 10, 1994. After we got there, the owner met us at exactly 2:00 pm. They use stainless steel fermenters and copper kettles with brass edgings for making beer. They only use natural ingredients such as malted barley, which we sampled, hops, waters and yeast. Dennis the beermaster does most of the work such as stirring the beer for 1 1/2 hours with a canoe paddle. There's a lot Dennis does, so much I think it would take five men to replace him. At the end of the tour the owner gave us root beer. I liked the tour.

Love,

David

Dear Brew:

It was a pleasure meeting you at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver last week. It is always encouraging to see new and exciting beer publications in the market.

Martin J. Nachel, Orland Park, IL

Dear Brew:

While attending the Great American Beer Festival in Denver I received a copy of your First Sip magazine. Let me tell you this is going to be a real neat magazine. I have never heard or seen anything like it. I am an avid beer drinker, trying to experience all of the different brews out there and I feel that this magazine will help me on my ventures. The concept alone of traveling the microbreweries and brewpubs of America is a great one. I can't wait to receive future issues!

Sincerely,
Bill Capps, Des Moines, IA

Dear Brew:

I enjoyed reading my First Sip issue and am anxious to finish the articles in the January issue. You have done a wonderful job making me want to travel to the places talked about in your issue. Congratulations on your new publication!

A. Gogerty, Tacoma, WA

Dear Brew:

A friend in Des Moines sent me a copy of your "Just a Sip!" and I was very impressed. I'd be eager to contribute, if you're looking for East Coast writers. The enclosed resume doesn't show a couple of pertinent beer-related points: that I'm one of the original limited partners in the Brooklyn Brewery, and I've recently been commissioned to do a Good Beer Guide to New York, listing the city's brewpubs and the best places (bars, restaurants, liquor stores) to buy microbrews. If you're interested-I'd be happy to submit some ideas for stories-please let me know. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
Timothy Harper, Ridgewood, NJ
