Local Microbrew Served Up on Northern Exposure

Portland's own Nor'Wester microbrewed beer was served up Monday night on the national television program Northern Exposure.

The award winning Nor'Wester Hefe Weizen was served first to the character Maggy O'Connell at her celebration for being elected Mayor, then during in the final segment of the show in the Brick Tavern. "They had our neon up on the wall for a number of episodes, however, this is the first time they have actually served our beer." said Company President Jim Bernau. The Nor'Wester Hefe Weizen was just rated "Best Buy" in the World Beer Championships in Chicago, Ill. In the same competition, Nor'Wester's Dunkel Weizen was named "World Champion" in the Dark Wheat category. Due to the recent notoriety, Nor'Wester just received a 5 semi truck load order from a California retailer. Berkeley's Triple Rock Brewery reopened after flood of '94!

(BERKELEY, CALIFORNIA) Triple Rock Brewery & Alehouse, one of the nation's first brewpubs, reopened on Thursday, December 29th, 1994. The venerable Triple Rock had been closed for repairs since December 8th due to a pipe rupture under the wood plank floors. "I'd like to say that the place filled up to the windows with our stout, but that would be stretching it," says John Martin, co-owner and founder along with his brother Reid.
