PUB NOTES

Did you feel it? You've probably been bitten by the bug; don't worry, the feeling you get from this bite is a good one. This critter simply awakens your taste buds, and you now prefer more flavor when selecting your brew.

In the beer industry, times are changing. While change is usually in direct conflict with historical perspectives, in this case, the change has resulted in the return of handcrafted beers. Brewed without adjuncts and chemicals, these beers are made with only natural ingredients. Microbeers, available in a variety of styles, are fresh and traditional in taste, and are brewed and aged slowly to allow the flavors to come through. These characteristics are what make microbeers different from large domestic brewery beers.

What you hold in your hands is a new magazine, designed to celebrate the renaissance of flavorful beer across this country. There has been an explosion in the beer industry with brewpubs & microbreweries opening at a frantic pace. This surge of awareness of flavor has swept the country, from sea to shining sea, and everyone is requesting a variety of styles with more traditional beer flavor.

This evolution to more flavor has created one undesired side-effect: the confusion created from the terms microbrewery, brewpub, craft brewery and contract brewery. Our magazine, in recognizing this awakening to flavor, wishes to take the stand that it doesn't matter what term is applied; it's the quest to find all the breweries and brewpubs, each with a unique history to tell, that's important. It is our contention that there are interesting stories about all, and we plan on bringing them to you through quality photographs and text.

The winter season seems the perfect time to introduce this new magazine. What could warm the soul more on a cold night than your first issue of Brew ® and a tall glass of handcrafted beer. Come join us! Enjoy the Brew ® .

Here's to taste!
