Ask Real Beer

September 1999

I have recently started brewing after a year and half absence. The new place I moved into has a several large windows with a South Eastern view, and I want to start growing my own hops, more as a hobby because I don't know if I can yield enough from a few indoor plants. Where can I get live plants to cultivate. -- Josh Decker.

This article from BrewingTechniques should get you started. Be warned that hops aren't really indoor plants. Hops farms in the Northwest and elsewhere let them grow to 20 feet high. They grow so fast they may sprout up one foot in a single day.
