GABF brewers' diaries

Todd Ashman

Flossmoor Station - Sept. 18

Just got done brewing an American Style Wheat and am getting ready to go up and get accustomed to my "almost" new home - Green Bay, Wisconsin. Got to secure a place to live and of course break in a new-to-me brewhouse. I'm the new Brewmaster at Titletown Brewing Co. in Green Bay. It will be fun learning a new way of doing things and then applying what I bring from 7 years at Flossmoor Station. It's a much needed diversion from the "wait."

The GABF looms large now and it gives me time to reflect.... Did anybody I know in the brewing industry get adversely affected by Hurricane Isabel? My brewer/mentor Scott Meyer's brewery is in the part of North Carolina that got hit today by Isabel. I can't even imagine what that must look like now ... it is on the Outer Banks. Hopefully all of the folks in our industry make it out of this one OK.

I enjoyed reading Tomme's diary entry about the judging process and it looks like he will touch on the rather passionate debates that take place in regards to the merits of the beer on the table(s). If nothing else it is peer review, but we all know it means a lot more to us brewers.

Not much to report today about the GABF itself other than it will be here soon and I will be there. Five more days till I get there.
