Mexican brewery to sell online
Grupo Modelo will take Internet orders, then deliver in Mexico City
Aug 8, 1999 - Mexican brewer Grupo Modelo, the maker of one of the world's top-selling beers, Corona, plans to launch the online service this month to begin selling beer online. It is calling its new program "Beer delivered to your home."
"We hope that before August 15 we have the service up and running and can take the first orders," a Modelo director said. The executive said that a minimum order would be for a case of 24 bottles, with the service limited initially to Mexico City. "We think the Internet sales will be very low, but we want to give our clients and especially Web addicts an alternative," the director said. Modelo controls some 55 percent of the Mexican beer market, with sales of about $1.2 billion in the first six months of 1999.
