Deschutes chosen 'Brewpub of the Year'

Brewie Awards honor top pubs in each region

Sept 29, 1999 - Deschutes Brewery & Public House of Bend, Oregon, was named Brewpub of the Year at the third annual National Brewpub Conference & Tradeshow.

The Brewie Awards were created by the National Brewpub Conference & Tradeshow and BrewPub magazine. "We want to honor brewpubs that excel in tying together delicious food, excellent beer, and top-notch service," said Gailen Jacobs, editor of BrewPub Magazine. There are more than 1,300 brewpubs, restaurants that make beer on the premises, in the United States and Canada.

Brewpubs can submit applications beginning in January for the 2000 Brewie

Awards. Next year's winner will be announced at the fourth annual National

Brewpub Conference & Tradeshow in Portland, Maine, Oct. 21-23.

Regional winners were:

Middle Atlantic: Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant, Newark, Delaware.

Southeast: Boscos Pizza Kitchen & Brewery, Germantown, Tenn.

Northeast: Boston Beer Works, Boston, Mass.

Midwest: Arbor Brewing Co., Ann Arbor, Mich.

Rocky Mountains: Wynkoop Brewing Co., Denver, Colo.

Southwest: Bricktown Brewing Co., Oklahoma City, Okla.

West: Deschutes Brewery & Public House, Bend, Oregon.

Canada: Yaletown Brewing Co., Vancouver.
