Rock Bottom top-selling brewpub chain
Brew Brothers remains No. 1 individual brewpub
Mar 30, 2001 - Rock Bottom Restaurants, Inc. was the highest-selling brewpub group in America last year, according the Institute for Brewing Studies. Rock Bottom led U.S. brewpub groups with overall beer sales of 34,966 barrels, a 4% improvement over its 1999 performance.
Despite a slight decline in beer sales, the Brew Brothers/Eldorado Hotel and Casino Reno, Nev., was the highest-selling single-site brewpub in the U.S. for the fourth consecutive year with sales of 5,040 barrels. In contrast to the rest of the American craft-brewing industry, brewpubs failed to boost production in 2000. While beer sales by the U.S. domestic specialty brewing industry (which includes brewpubs, microbreweries, regional breweries and contract brewing companies) grew by 4.1%, sales by the brewpub sector fell .2%. After opening a record 17 brewpubs per year in both 1998 and 1999, Hops Restaurant, Bar & Brewery, added 10 new stores in 2000 and plans just four new units in 2001.
