More WBC winners honored

European World Beer Cup medalists get awards in Germany

May 14, 2004 - Breweries from 10 European countries received World Beer Cup 2004 awards at the first Association of Brewers World Beer Cup European Awards ceremony held May 5 in Höhr-Grenzhausen, Germany. Eighty beer-industry representatives from Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Kingdom and United States attended the ceremony and beer dinner.

Winners were announced last month in San Diego, with many medalists receiving their awards then.

"The participation of European brewers in the World Beer Cup was beyond our expectations," said Association of Brewers Founder Charlie Papazian. Germany's Sahm Glassware organized the World Beer Cup European Awards. Papazian presented the 34 awards.

Rudiger Ruoss of from Switzerland congratulated winners and urged continued support of the World Beer Cup's competitions. Ruoss is a well-known organizer and producer of Europe's most important beer and beverage conferences, including the World Beer and Drinks Forum.

The 2004 World Beer Cup winners were decided by 93 judges from Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Nicaragua, United States and United Kingdom. The competition attracted 1,566 entries from 393 breweries in 40 countries.
