The family-owned Odell Brewing Company in Fort Collins, Colorado continues to survive, and even thrive in a market of fierce competition for the heart, minds and tastebuds of craftbeer drinkers. The Cutthroat Pale Ale begins with a hazy, dark straw color showing a slight sediment. The bold hop aromas precede a full mouthfeel and big malty character. The overall flavor profile is one of balance. The nice soft, rich maltiness complements well the hop bitterness before finishing cleanly. The bottles all display their bottling date and a brief description of the style and unique ingredients. Another product worth seeking out from the front range of the Rockies.
After the latest system expansion the brewery's annual capacity was boosted to 30,000 barrels per year, up from 18,000 barrels in 1999. The 50-barrel Specific Mechanical brewhouse feeds an impressive 14 100-barrel unitanks. Current products range from 10-liter kegs to 2 1/2 gallon kegs and 12-ounce bottles. The bottling line processing a case at a time.
The updated tasting room is open Monday through Friday from 10am to 6pm, and Saturday Noon to 6pm. Tours are supported those same days at 11am, 1pm and 3pm.
