Under the 15 foot ceiling stands a large bar that hosts draughts, bottled beers and a full liquor selection. Above the bar a small lounge area offers a view of the premises. Back at ground level the yellow painted walls host artistic renditions of Australian amphibians (crocodiles) and imaginative decorations, some in 3-D. White linen table clothes cover the small and large dining tables while the oyster bar stands nearby serving up specials like 10 oysters on a half-shell for $1 during happy hour. Beer specials often include Australian draughts and American mega micro clones such as Michelob Hefe-Weise for under $2. The menu features Australian specialties in the burger and entrée sections with prices ranging from $5 to $15 for most offerings. The low volume CD sounds make conversation enjoyable and second-hand smoke is not currently a problem. The outdoor patio awaits warm weather to give customers the rare opportunity in Albuquerque to enjoy quality beer in fresh air setting. Only time will tell if this bold move to place an upscale establishment among the relics of Mexican restaurants and bowling alleys will succeed. For the sake of lovers of quality beer we can only hope so.
