Chicago Beers

The Down Under Bar offers a wide selection of microbrewery beers and single malt Scotches. Unfortunately, sampling was denied due to this business' ridiculous opening time of 3 p.m.

With a great view of the lake and Navy Pier the Beer Garden offers outdoor seating along with some flavor-friendly brews. Bass Ale, Guinness Stout and Sam Adams Boston Lagers are poured into 12-ounce plastic cups for $4 each. Leinie's Red brings up the low end at $3.50. Food vendors around the large patio offer pizza, burgers and bratwurst. When the weather's accommodating, this is a great place to catch some rays and people watch, just don't expect to find a parking place. That's not a problem since the "L" runs close and the busses run right to the entrance (#29, #65, #56, #66, #120, #121). See www.transitchicago.com There's even a trolley service from Union Station.
