Australians Drink Draughts to Help Drought Victims!
The Aussies turning their arvo beer into much-needed drought support
A group of beer drinkers at an RSL club in New South Wales came up with an idea: what if clubs throughout the state donated a few cents from every beer to their countrymen impacted by Australia’s crippling drought? It didn’t take long for “Litres for the Land Appeal” to catch on. And now it’s going national.
Each club through its drinkers is pouring money into the appeal which in turn is pouring water into remote farmhouse tanks so families on the land can enjoy the most basic convenience, to wash. It’s a simple gesture – a truckload of water is purchased and sent to a farm which has run dry. But it’s more than just a truck of water. It’s hope.

Beer crafted by students in Kalamazoo Valley’s sustainable brewing program have consistently won prestigious brewing awards and now those brews can be sampled by the public. The college recently obtained the licensing to sell beer crafted by its students.

UK – Laine Brewing Company launches diversity apprenticeship opportunity
UK BREWER LAUNCHES APPRENTICESHIP TO PROMOTE DIVERSITY
Laine Brew Company, with over 60 bars and brewpubs in the UK, is rolling out a new brewing apprenticeship scheme to attract more people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds into the beer industry.
The apprenticeship was launched at south London pub The Four Thieves on Wednesday evening, at an event called the One for All Festival, which saw people employed in various areas of the brewing industry speak about their roles and how they got into their careers.

PDX – Lompoc Brewing closing after 23 years
It is with great sadness we announce Lompoc Brewing is closing after 23 years in business. The closure will include the brewery, as well as 5th Quadrant and Sidebar, and its two pubs on North Williams Avenue. The final day of business will be Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2019. That means this weekend is the last weekend, next Monday is the last Wing Night, and next Tuesday is the last Tightwad Tuesday; it truly is The Last Waltz with Lompoc Brewing.

Sam Adams “Utopias” beer is illegal in 15 states
Samuel Adams released its exclusive Utopias beer to select locations yesterday, the collection is so rare, only 100 casks were made and it’s illegal in 15 states. Each beer is barrel-aged and hand-bottled, the brewing company calls it “America’s most extreme beer.†It contains 28 percent alcohol by volume and it sells for $210 a bottle. Due to its high 28 percent ABV content, the Utopias collection is illegal in Alaska, Arizona, Georgia, Idaho, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Utah, Vermont, and West Virginia.

Led by Beer Canada, today’s first annual Canadian Beer Day celebration, kicks off with a launch party at Great Western Brewing Company in Saskatoon. Delegates from Canada’s small and large breweries will gather with barley farmers, members of the beer supply chain and beer drinkers, to highlight the history and current contributions the beer industry has on Canada’s culture, economy and local communities.

2019 GABF Competition Medal Winners
The Great American Beer Festival competition is for U.S. breweries and Judges examined 9,497 beers from 2,295 American breweries this year.
The big day when many brewers hold their collective breath waiting to see if their dreams of gold, silver, or bronze, come true at Great American Beer Festival was October 5th. “If you don’t have butterflies in your stomach, you don’t have a beer entered in the competition,†GABF Competition Director Chris Swersey said before the award ceremony. Winning a GABF competition medal can catapult a small brewery to success.

Ten Things to Look For at this year’s Great American Beer Festival
The 38th annual GABF started yesterday at the Colorado Convention Center, prepared yourself for sensory overload! This year, the projected 62,000 festival-goers will be able to sample more than 4,000 beers from 800 breweries. (Lord help us!) The competition will include more than 9,600 beers from 2,300 breweries, competing to win medals in a 107 categories.
