38th Annual GABF

There were 7000 breweries at the end of 2018 in the US, with another 1000 expected to open this year.
And many of those will be descending on Denver this week for, of course, the 38th annual Great American Beer Festival. In 1982 at the first GABF there were about 25 breweries pouring. This year there will be over 800 breweries pouring over 4000 different beers to an expected attendance of 62,000.

The History of Beer Is the History of the World

Homer Simpson sez “beer is the cause of, and the solution to, all of life’s problems”. Some scientists claim beer may be the origin of civilization as we know it. The first civilizations emerged along the great river valleys of the then known world: the Tigris and Euphrates, the Ganges and Indus, the Yangtze and Yellow.

Bilberries for Beer at Welsh Brewery

Hafod brewery is offering beer in exchange for 100 grams of freshly picked bilberries forage from the local moorlands by the public.
Normally the brewery procures the berries from rangers from the Clwydian Range Area but owner Martin Godfrey wanted to “step up production” and so, has called on locals for help.
The brewery says every 100 grams of foraged bilberries will earn the picker a bottle from this year’s batch of Bilberry Brew.

Beyond Oktoberfest: Everything You Need to Plan a Beercation to Bavaria, Germany
“My advice for a beer lover going to Bavaria would be to not get overly fixated on Munich,” says Joe Stange, who co-hosts the “One More Road for the Beer” podcast about beer and travel. “It’s a beer-garden amusement park and worth seeing, for sure, but don’t miss Franconia — especially Upper Franconia, Bamberg, and the villages around it.”
The Bavarian beer scene includes more than 800 breweries, spanning some of the world’s oldest names and ultra-modern craft stylists…

Entrepreneurs turning brewery by-product into profits

VANCOUVER, BC
Many breweries sell or give their spent grains from the brewing process to farmers to feed their livestock. But not every craft brewer can access farmers in need of feed, so an industry has formed around spent grain with entrepreneurs turning it into cookies, breads and even dog treats. Via – The Star
