Abbey beer has heritage back to the 11th century
May 26, 2000 - Netherlands brewer Heineken announced Friday that acquired a 50% stake of Belgian brewer Affligem Brouwerij (formerly Brouwerij De Smedt). The Affligem lineup includes several beers that are sent to the United States, including a dubel, a tripel and the popular holiday seasonal, Affligem Noel.
