Americans make beer top choice when it comes to alcohol
July 1, 2000 - Beer remain the alcoholic beverage of choice for Americans.
In a nationwide poll of more than 1,200 adults, 23% said they preferred beer, followed by wine at 17.3% and mixed drinks at 14.3%. Nearly one-third of the respondents (30.9%) said they did not drink alcoholic beverages of any kind. Democrats chose beer over wine and mixed drinks 23.7%-19.4%-13%, respectively, compared with Republicans 21.4%-19.5%-10.3%. Men preferred beer over wine 35.4%-12.1% while women preferred wine (22.2%) over mixed drinks (16.6%) then beer (11.6%).
