Sam Adams commercial winner works at Coffee Bean
Jan 15, 2002 - Marco Guerrero, an aspiring screenwriter who works at The Coffee Bean in Los Angeles, has won the "Sam Adams Brew It Yourself TV Commercial Contest." Guerrero will receive a $100,000 production budget and be paid $5,000 to direct his original commercial with Chris Moore, co-founder of Project Greenlight.
Guerrero received his award from actor Matt Damon at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. More than registered for the contest 7,614 submitted original concepts for a 30-second Sam Adams' television commercial. Guerrero's commercial, which he calls "Guy's Night Out," is guaranteed to air on late night network television such as on NBC's "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" and VH1. "Sam Adams champions philosophies that are also shared by Greenlight -- breaking the established rules to create something truly innovative. Together, we introduced the 'Brew It Yourself' contest, which was about independent thinking and helping people with great ideas get to the next level," said Boston Beer founder Jim Koch.
