Ontario Craft Beer Route spotlights 25 breweries
July 29, 2005 - The Ontario Craft Brewers and the LCBO last week unveiled an Ontario Craft Beer Route, spotlighting 25 breweries between Windsor (Walkerville Brewing Co.) and Ottawa (Heritage Brewing in Carleton Place).
"It's the next step in establishing a world-class beer experience right here in Ontario," said Brick Brewing Co. president Jim Brickman. Ontario has committed $5 million to the OCB for a five-year strategic plan to boost awareness about the province's brewing industry, encourage tourism and ensure local job creation. LCBO chair Andrew Brandt told the news conference that sales of craft beers jumped 25% in the last year. The market share for Ontario craft beers is 4%, he said, and that's expected to rise to 12% in the next decade. The LCBO promises to give Ontario craft beers more prominent displays in stores.
