Billboard pictures Jesus with beer
Houston message describes Christ as 'King of Beers'
July 11, 2006 - Another "King of Jews/King of Beers" billboard has surfaced, this time in Houston.
The company that leases the billboard believes vandals made the poster at home and then pasted it over the ad that was there. Neighbors said the billboard had been up at least a week before a Houston television station reported on it (photo). The billboard shows Jesus holding a can of Budweiser beer between two messages reading "Jesus, King of Jews" and "Jesus, King of Beers." A billboard in Baltimore a few years ago featured a slightly different message and different artwork, and was removed after being vandalized. On that billboard, Jesus was holding a beer with the slogan "The King of the Jews for the King of Beers" underneath the image. Following repeated complaints about the artwork from a radio show, a vandal or vandals defaced the billboard by throwing a can of white paint on the image. It was then taken down.
