A Big Craft Beer Welcome to the First Latina-Founded Community Brewing Space, Mujeres Brew House
San Diego Welcomes First Latina-Founded Community Brewing Space, Mujeres Brew House
When you think iconic beer zones, San Diego city and county rate high with most craft beer enthusiasts. I eagerly look forward to seeking out Mujeres Brew House in the city by the bay on my next trip down.
“On July 1, 2020, the Mujeres Brew Club in San Diego will open the first Latinx women-founded and women-led community brewing space, educational facility, and taproom dedicated to empowering people of all backgrounds, specifically focusing on women of color in the craft beer industry. According to co-founders Carmen Favela and Esthela Davila, Mujeres Brew House will be managed by women and for women with the intent of breaking down barriers of entry into the beer scene.”
Mujeres Brew House is an incorporated non-profit collaboration between Border X Brewing, Mujeres Brew Club, and progressive community gallery space Bread & Salt.
If the beer matches the concept I see nothing but blue skies for this great idea.

MI Brewers Guild Publishes Annual Magazine & Map
PR – The Michigan Brewers Guild has just released the 2020 edition of its annual publication, Michigan. The Great Beer State. The 72-page magazine includes stories about the creativity and consistency behind brewing; beer quality tips for consumers; and how member breweries give-back in big and small ways around Michigan.
A highlight of the publication is the pull-out map and listings for 293 member brewery locations spread out throughout Michigan’s two peninsulas (up from 281 in last year’s issue).
“We look forward to the Great Beer State magazine every year,†says Scott Graham, the Guild’s executive director. “It is always fun to review the brewery listings, map and other information in a printed format that you can hold in your hands and turn the pages.â€
The 80,000 copies of the magazine have been distributed to member breweries, Michigan welcome centers, chambers of commerce and visitor bureaus, retail locations and other beer-supporting businesses around the state. A flip-book version is also available online at MiBeer.com (under resources). An additional 10,000 copies of the pull-out map were also printed.

Beer is a scarce commodity in Mexico
Beer has become such a rare commodity in Mexico that when it becomes available, police officers have to be called in to control crowds.
It happened at a VIP Supermarket in one Tijuana neighborhood. The minute word got out that it had beer, people rushed to the store and lined up. Almost immediately police officers showed up to keep peace and order. Ever since Mexico ruled beer as non-essential during the COVID-19 crisis, breweries south of the border ceased operations and beer became scarce before stores completely ran out of it.
“I’m in heaven, can’t remember the last time I had a beer,†said Alexis Gonzalez, who was able to buy a 12-pack of Bud Light.

Pandemic-era women help keep CA craft beer industry afloat
Meet the pandemic-era women helping to keep California’s craft beer industry afloat
When coronavirus landed in California and Bay Area closed its non-essential businesses, the loss in revenue sent the state’s breweries – along with its bars and wineries – into a tailspin.
“We literally now haven’t kegged anything in two months just because there was no point,” says Claudia Pamparana, co-founder of Alameda’s Faction Brewing.
“It’s been frustrating,” she says. “It’s depressing to not have people sitting on our patio.”
The new objective for the foreseeable future for Faction – and for others across Northern California – was (and is) to can that perishable beer and sell it off as fast as possible, while it’s still fresh. So they called the Can Van.

The Rebirth of Dixie Beer
Dixie Beer was founded in 1907, and destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Rebuilt through out-of-state contract brewing, and the help of the late Tom Benson and his wife Gayle, owners of the New Orleans Saints and the New Orleans Pelicans, Dixie now has a sparkling new brewery just outside of downtown New Orleans.
