What To Do With Your Summer Vacation

So you've accrued some summer vacation hours or as we all now call it; use or lose time. Here are some options that crossed my desk recently.
"The German Beer Mastery Crusade" is an exclusive 7-day group tour beginning June 4, 1997, running weekly through October 22. Set in the Bavarian capital city of Munich where you will experience all the brewing and gastronomic delights this city has to offer.
Day trips are planned to some of Germany's premiere breweries, a beer producing monastery and beer gardens. Travel with them to Salzburg, Austria for an exclusive tour of the magnificent Stiegl's Beerworld.
The price for this outstanding trip is $1345 (excluding airfare) and well worth the investment. Phone Quest Group International for a brochure and further information at (617) 286-8434.
Haven't got the scratch for an oversees trip? How about something more local-within a day's drive? Murphy's Sharp Mountain Guest House is a B&B nestled among the mountains of east-central Pennsylvania, located in the town of Pottsville. The reason why it's on my list is that it is within a beer cap's toss to the historic Yuengling Brewery. Tours of the brewery are offered M-F at 10:30AM and 1:30PM. Price for a room is only $75/night, double occupancy. Phone them at (717) 622-7911 for further information and reservations.
Need something even more local? Try the Woodstock Inn Station, Brewer's Weekends and Banquets. They are located in North Woodstock, NH where you can join them for a hands-on weekend of making beer at their brewery while relaxing at night in beautifully appointed rooms. When I wrote about this offer, last year, they sold out fast . Also, I received some of the best feedback ever from readers that took advantage of this opportunity. The price of a Brewer's Weekend is $145. Phone them at (800) 321-3985 for more information and reservations.
Decided that you will be spending your use or lose vacation time in the backyard? Get some Tremont Ale to go. That's right, Tremont Ale is now in bottles and we can all thank our lucky (brewing) stars, Chris Lohring and Alex Reveliotty, owners of Atlantic Coast Brewing in Charlestown, MA. At long last, these wannabe titans of the local micro-scene have done something that their fans (like me) have been thirsting for since they began brewing in 1993. I will no longer have to mooch their beer by traveling to the brewery under the pretext of a "tour of their facility" for the 1000th time. You still can, however. Tours are Fridays at 4PM and Saturdays at 1PM. Phone them at (617) 242-6464 for details and directions.
