Zymurtech states that its Pure-Brew C Activated Carbon Water Filter will absorb chlorine, chloramine, bad tastes and odors to produce clear, clean brewing water. The foot-long, 6.5-inch in circumference filter comes equipped with a granular activated carbon filter, faucet diverter valve and eight feet of food grade clear tubing. To use it is quite simple: remove the aerator from your faucet, screw the diverter valve onto the faucet, turn on the water and pull out the diverter knob. Filtered water will now flow out the tubing into your brewpot. Zymurtech recommends replacing the carbon filter every six to nine months to reduce the chance of bacterial growth in the filter. The effective capacity of the carbon filter is listed as 1,500 gallons. For areas with heavy levels of silt or sediment in the water supply, Zymurtech makes a Sediment Filter that will remove dirt, rust, silt and sediment down to five microns in size ($49.95 including shipping, replacement filter - $16.50).
Zymurtech's Clear-Beer Clarifying Filter is designed to reduce protein and yeast sediment and reduce chill haze in finished homebrew. The filter is a 100% polypropylene depth filter of food grade FDA-approved material. The double layer combination of filter materials gives a one micron filtering capability. To use it, the filter, about 9 inches long and 4.5 inches in circumference, should first be immersed in a sterilizing solution and then rinsed with water. Hose barb fittings (for either 1/4-, 3/8- or 1/2-inch inside diameter tubing) at either end of the filter connect to your beer line. With a pump or CO2 pressure, beer is pushed through the filter at a rate of about one-half gallon per minute (10-15 psi). After use, the filter can be backflushed with tap water and will be effective for 10-12 five-gallon batches of beer. Several filter disks of different thicknesses are also included in the package for additional clarification. The Clear-Beer Clarifying Filter is easy to use, the instructions are simple and straightforward and the results good.
